CM/Spotlight: hard floor care case study Buckeye International, Inc. School Takes Program In-house The right products help school’s floor care program shine. P Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover in New Hampshire decided to take their cleaning, maintenance and custodial duties in-house after being in a contract with an outside service. The first, and most important, step was to hire a new staff to handle these duties. Josh Gronblom was hired as the cus-todial supervisor and went about hiring a new team. Finding the right people is always key, as they are the most valuable resource. No matter which floor care/custodial program is utilized, its only as effective as the people doing the work. After his team was in place, Gronblom consulted with Paul Keefe of Clean-O-Rama, a janitorial supply distributor with a proven reputation for helping facilities in Maine and New Hampshire. Keefe was a colleague Gronblom had worked with in a previous position and was known as a trusted problem-solver. one application. Next, 1844 was applied to the stripped floors. 1844 is a sealer/finish combination, so a separate sealer was not necessary to use on the bare tile, which helped save on product cost. What really impressed the new custo-dial team was 1844’s ease of application and self-leveling. After five coats were applied, the gloss was outstanding; they knew they had achieved their floor care goals. Achieve Your Goals There are many factors to consider when choosing a floor care program. First, you need to consider your goals. The features desired for your floor may include durability, gloss, ease of application, required maintenance, non-yellowing, etc. Whatever the criteria, it all must fit within a given budget to be practical. Buckeye International Inc. recently released a new floor finish called 1844 that has all of the features you expect from a Buckeye floor finish, plus it fits into any budget. It gives floors a superior gloss without yellowing or powdering. This durability allows you to extend strip cycles and save money in both product and labor costs. 1844 is an excellent choice, no matter what type of floor surface or burnishing program you use. CM Circle Product Information no. 153 Getting To Work Portsmouth Christian Academy at Dover is a K-12 school that serves approximately 600 students. The campus consists of three buildings, and Gronblom knew that the first major task would be to get the vinyl composition tile (VCT) floors looking their best over the summer. This would have to be coordinated along with all of the other major cleaning tasks that needed to be accomplished while the students were on summer break. After completing some product testing, Gronblom selected Buckeye RipSaw™ floor stripper and 1844 floor finish. He wanted all of the old finish removed and to start fresh with a durable product that would also provide excellent gloss. Gronblom states, “When selecting prod-ucts, the quality has to be there. You just cannot compromise when it comes to performance.” RipSaw is easy to use because it con-tains an Automatic Dilution Indicator ® (ADI) that turns the stripper solution cloudy when it is properly diluted, which helps ensure that the product is not being overused. The crew at the school was impressed that RipSaw removed the old floor finish in This content was provided by Buckeye International, Inc. as part of a paid advertisement.
