ACI Suggests Strengthening Chemical Control Law Pre-show setup for ISSA/INTERCLEAN 2013 Las Vegas. From The ISSA/INTERCLEAN 2013 Show Floor From November 18 to 21, ISSA/INTERCLEAN 2013 North America was held in Las Vegas, Nevada. Before the Wednesday morning keynote address by Tony Hsieh, ISSA Executive Director John Garfinkel announced that ISSA/ INTERCLEAN 2013 had the highest level of attendance since 2005. Also, 692 exhibitors participated in the show, which was an all time high for ISSA/ INTERCLEAN, according to Garfinkel. Wednesday afternoon, the 10 winners of the 2013 ISSA Innovation Award Program were announced. According to a press release, this annual program provides cleaning-industry distribu-tors and end-customers — including building service contractors and in-house service pro-fessionals — the opportunity to choose prod-uct innovations in five separate categories. According to the press release, future dates for ISSA events include: ■ ISSA/INTERCLEAN North America: The American Cleaning Institute (ACI) urged Congress to strengthen the nation’s main chemical control law, the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA), in testimony before a House subcommittee, according to a press release. ACI President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ernie Rosenberg told the House Subcommittee on Environment and the Economy that the cleaning products indus-try is supportive of bipartisan Senate legisla-tion, the Chemical Safety Improvement Act (CSIA), which would modernize TSCA, the nation’s 37-year-old law governing chemi -cals in commerce. Rosenberg told the subcommittee that a strengthened TSCA has the potential to pro-mote consumer and environmental protec-tion while enabling innovation for new and improved products. Rosenberg added that the proposed leg-islation would preserve the efficiencies in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s new chemicals review process, which are widely acknowledged to have worked well and are critical to innovation. OSHA Proposes Changes To Injury Tracking The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) issued a proposed rule to improve workplace safety and health through improved tracking of workplace inju-ries and illnesses, according to a press release.
