What a strange six years for the global econ-omy. Without getting too deep into the specif-ics of “The Great Recession,” one trend the downturn definitely left behind was a lack of positive economic reportage. From the burst housing bubble to sink-ing employment numbers, media agencies always seemed to be in a rush to reveal the bleak realities. After years of growing negativity, posi-tive economic reports can feel downright revelatory. then made his case for why the U.S. should expect significant growth in the coming years. (256) 715-0342 (518) 640-9172 Survey Says Another dose of welcome good news comes directly from a group of active BSCs. The 2014 Building Service Contractor Sur-vey responses on page 27 provide a wealth of information about today’s BSC market. While we frequently hear small busi-nesses and entrepreneurship have been crippled by the sluggish economy and new legislation, the majority of BSC respondents showed significantly increased or some-what increased revenues in 2013. For 2014, over 72 percent of the contrac-tors who responded expect revenues to increase while almost 20 percent plan on stable revenue. Rich DiPaolo, Cleaning & Maintenance Management’s editorial director, attended the 2014 World Federation of Building Ser-vice Contractors World Congress held in Manhattan in early April. With an array of established speakers covering a number of subjects, the well-at-tended congress was packed with informa-tion for business owners. The two keynote addresses, handled by Dr. Peter Diamandis of the X PRIZE Founda-tion and Steve Forbes of Forbes Magazine , painted positive pictures for cleaning pro-fessionals. As DiPaolo reports on page 25, Diaman-dis explained that BSCs must be open to change while exploring the part that inno-vation and technology will play in future service development. In his presentation, Forbes looked back at the beginning of the recent recession, and 19BritishAmericanBlvdWest•Latham,NY12110-6405 (518) 783-1281 FAX: (518) 783-1386 Subscription Questions or Inquiries Toll Free (866) 721-4807 Outside U.S. (847) 763-1867 or e-mail [email protected] Subscribe / Renew / Change of Address: http://www.CMMOnline.com/Subscribe Corporate General Manager Barry Lovette [email protected] Vice President of Operations [email protected] Brent Kizzire Vice President of Business Publishing [email protected] Tracy Aston-Martin Vice President of Finance [email protected] Brad Youngblood Director of New Business Development [email protected] Matt Gallinger Group Director of Circulation & Fulfillment [email protected] Delicia Poole Circulation Manager Anna Hicks Circulation Analyst Stacy Barnes [email protected] [email protected] Editorial Advisory Board: Phillip Lawless, editor Phillip Lawless is Editor of Cleaning & Maintenance Management magazine; he can be reached at PLawless@GrandViewMedia. com.
