Standardizing Tasks Standardize tasks and process, improving and re-evaluating as you go. It is impossible to have peace of mind and good hygienic results with multiple custodians cleaning rest-rooms multiple ways. One step is delegating tasks. Q: Who will empty the trash? A: Not the restroom cleaner; they can only clean the restroom. Use the primary cleaner or light duty special-ist. They are already emptying the trash and have the mobile tools to do the job. Q: Who will restock paper and soap? A: Use your multipurpose person or primary techni-cian. Do this last as it will serve as a last check of the restroom cleanliness. Q: Who will do the weekly deep cleaning tasks? A: Use your restroom specialist. Norovirus Cleanup After an occupant throws up or has diarrhea in the restroom, immediately clean and disinfect contami-nated surfaces. Use a chlorine bleach solution with a concentration of 1,000 to 5,000 ppm (5 to 25 table-spoons of household bleach [5.25 percent] per gallon of water) or other disinfectant registered as effective against norovirus by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). — U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ✓ www.CMMOnline.com Morrison Rex Morrison is president of the non-profit Process Cleaning for Healthy Schools (PC4HS) Consortium Inc., and he pioneered PC4HS in 100 schools in Nevada.
