tech tip Developing A Restroom Cleaning Production System A process to help employees clean for health. By: Rex Morrison The goal in creating a restroom cleaning production system (CPS) is to provide a healthy restroom environ-ment through cleaning for health. The best cleaning process will flow from this goal. Flow naturally happens when tasks are so well defined and synchronized that one task easily leads into another. The work is then a steady, purposeful and energy-saving forward movement. Pick A Procedure The next step is adopting a procedure that prevents or removes rather than redistributes restroom contami-nants. The two cleaning options are: ● Hand cleaning ● Spray and vacuum. May 2014 Determining Time To determine how long it will take to clean for health in all your restrooms, count your porcelain fixtures. This should include: ● Sinks ● Toilets ● Urinals ● Showerheads. Hand Cleaning: Allow two minutes per porcelain fixture. Spray and Vacuum: Allow one minute per porcelain fixture. Thus, if you have 120 porcelain fixtures: ● It will take two hours to clean your restrooms with a spray and vacuum system. ● It will take four hours to clean your restrooms with a hand cleaning system. 14 CM/Cleaning & Maintenance Management ®
