CM/Spotlight: Carpet Care VersaClean From “Dull” To “Like New” Then Maintaining It With VersaClean ™ Systems By: Bryan Thomson S Staff at the local branch of a major bank recently saw how easily they can maintain and refresh their carpets with VersaClean, even in a high-security area. The bank’s building services contractor (BSC) had been doing minimal carpet main-tenance, and the carpet showed it. Although the BSC had vacuumed nightly, removed spots when neces-sary and cleaned with a standard por-table extractor and two-jet wand once a year, the carpet was deeply soiled and looked dull. Carpet acts like a giant filter, trapping and holding soil. Daily vacuuming is an essential first step, but what about spills and soil buildup in traffic lanes? A comprehensive maintenance and restorative cleaning program keeps carpets looking fresh over the long term. Here’s the ideal program we proposed to the BSC: 1. Daily vacuuming to remove 70–75 percent of the dry soils. 2. Spills and spot removal using a spotting kit and the VersaClean spotter/extractor. 3. Interim (two times/month) low moisture encapsulation cleaning using the VersaClean counter rotating brush (CRB) system. 4. Deep restorative cleaning with the self-contained VersaCarpet ™ rotary extractor, a Sapphire Scientific truckmount or portable extractor after every four or five encapsulation cleanings. To demonstrate how quickly carpets can be cleaned properly, we first did encapsulation cleaning. We applied diluted Power Encap Plus to the light and medium traffic areas with Spotting stains before deep cleaning. VersaCarpet machine deep-cleaned heavily soiled carpets. CRB machine left carpets bright, clean and almost dry. Each subsequent vacuuming makes the carpet look even better! In traffic lanes and under office desks, the soil loading was heavy, so we used the VersaCarpet ™ machine. Its self-contained rotary extractor and 200-foot hose run capability make it the perfect cleaning system for carpet where security and site specific cleaning are required. With the VersaCarpet machine connect-ed to the janitor’s sink, we presprayed the area with the onboard prespray wand using VersaCarpet Step 1 HD and let it dwell for 5-10 minutes. We followed this with VersaCarpet Step 3, an acidic rinse that removes all residues and makes carpets softer. The next day the bank manager asked the BSC project manager, “How did you get the carpet so clean? My office carpet looks like new and smells great — I love it!” This shows that getting from “dull” to “like new” is not difficult. With a clear understanding of the proper cleaning equipment, procedures and clean-ing intervals, BSCs can bank on this kind of customer enthusiasm with every job. VersaClean Systems is your Total Floor Care Solution: Real Clean Simplified. the VersaClean battery-powered Portable Sprayer. After 10 minutes’ dwell time, we used the 20-inch CRB2380 to remove the soil from the tips of the fibers. The brushes of the CRB also lift the pile, making the carpet look brighter and notice-ably cleaner. The area dried quickly and was ready for use almost immediately. The encapsulating polymer in Power Encap Plus bonds with soil and dries to a crystalline powder. About the Author.
